Piyush Mishra Makes Bold Choice Between Filmmakers, Opens Up About Industry Relationships
Veteran actor and singer Piyush Mishra, known for his forthright opinions, has once again sparked conversation with his candid remarks in a recent interview. The multifaceted artist delved into his complex off-screen dynamics with acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and shed light on his strained equation with legendary actor Naseeruddin Shah, offering a rare glimpse into Bollywood's interpersonal intricacies.
Piyush Mishra's Clear Preference: Imtiaz Ali Over Anurag Kashyap
In a revealing conversation with Shubhankar Mishra, when pressed to choose between directors Imtiaz Ali and Anurag Kashyap as a creative partner, Piyush Mishra responded without hesitation. "Imtiaz Ali, any day," he declared emphatically. "He is a great director and writes amazing scripts. I feel immense satisfaction after working with him."
His comments about Kashyap, however, were notably more nuanced and critical. Mishra elaborated, "Anurag also does it, but… How shall I define Anurag Kashyap for you? Why does he talk so much? He does wrong to himself unnecessarily. You should either do good to yourself or the other person, but he doesn't even think of himself. That's his problem."
Functional Yet Friction-Filled Working Relationship with Kashyap
Despite the pointed criticism, Piyush Mishra acknowledged that his professional collaboration with Anurag Kashyap—most famously on the cult classic 'Gangs of Wasseypur' in 2012—remains productive. He described their dynamic as strictly functional, stating, "If you are going against something, then there should at least give results. The main thing is that he knows he won't get any result; he still speaks a lot."
He further revealed, "Mujhe zabardast virodh hai usse (I have a big issue with that). We barely communicate; I can't talk to him for a longer period, and neither can he. We don't talk, only shoot for films. But we work well together; we both know what we want. He also used to abuse me earlier, but only I do it now." This admission highlights a working relationship built on mutual professional respect despite personal discord.
Strained Equation with Naseeruddin Shah
During the same interview, Piyush Mishra did not hold back when discussing his relationship with veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah, leaving no room for ambiguity. He stated bluntly, "I don't have good relations with Naseer. Neither do I like him, nor he likes me."
He added, "And, if both the parties don't like each other, then it becomes an ideal stage to not talk, because you both know that you don't like each other, so there's just no need to talk." This frank disclosure underscores the often-unspoken tensions that can exist between industry stalwarts, even as they navigate the same professional sphere.
Current Engagements and Upcoming Projects
On the work front, Piyush Mishra remains actively engaged. He is currently touring with his band 'Ballimaaraan' for the 'Aarambh 2.0 India tour', showcasing his musical talents. His upcoming film projects include 'The Saga of Rashtriya Rifles' and 'Lollypop Since 1947', indicating a busy schedule ahead.
This interview not only provides insight into Mishra's personal and professional viewpoints but also reflects the complex web of relationships that define the Bollywood industry, where creative collaborations often coexist with personal differences.
