Krushna Abhishek's Journey: From Childhood Tragedy to Comedy Stardom
Krushna Abhishek's Struggle: Mother's Loss to TV Success

Krushna Abhishek Opens Up About His Emotional and Professional Struggles

Krushna Abhishek, renowned for his impeccable comedy timing on shows like Laughter Chefs and The Great Indian Kapil Show, has recently shared the profound hardships that shaped his path to stardom. In a candid podcast with Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa, the actor-comedian revealed a journey marked by personal loss, financial struggles, and professional setbacks, challenging the perception that his film family connections made his career easy.

Early Life Tragedy and Family Support

Krushna's life took a tragic turn when he lost his mother to uterine cancer at just two years old, shortly after his sister Arti was born. "I grew up only with my father, and my childhood was somewhat like the film Kunwara Baap," he shared. He never experienced a mother's love firsthand, knowing her only through a photograph and a single video memory of her singing.

His maternal grandmother was a noted Thumri singer from the Benaras Gharana and the mother of Govinda, Krushna's uncle. Despite being surrounded by artistic talent, life was far from easy. After his mother's passing, Krushna and his father faced numerous struggles, relying on each other for support. In a touching act of friendship, Geeta aunty, Govinda's sister-in-law and a close friend of Krushna's mother, adopted his sister Arti, raising her as her own in Lucknow.

Misconceptions About Film Family Privilege

Many assume that being Govinda's nephew smoothed Krushna's entry into the entertainment industry, but he dispelled this myth. "People often think that coming from a film family makes life easy. Being Govinda’s nephew, many believe my journey in Mumbai must have been smooth. But that’s not really true," he explained. While acknowledging Govinda's unwavering support and fatherly guidance, Krushna emphasized that the struggle was entirely his own.

Bhojpuri Film Career and Financial Hardships

Krushna began his acting career in Bhojpuri cinema, a move he takes pride in despite its challenges. His debut film, Suhaag with Rinku Ghosh, was a hit, leading to a flurry of signings—around 25 films in total. "I had releases every few months," he recalled. However, success was short-lived, as about 15 of his subsequent films flopped. Out of 28 Bhojpuri films, he gained little recognition, and financial difficulties persisted.

At one point, while living in Versova, he couldn't afford rent, relying on his father's motivation to persevere. "I took up whatever films came my way just to earn money," he said, including roles in Tamil and Gujarati films, which provided valuable experience but limited financial relief.

Breakthrough with Comedy Circus and Television

A turning point came with Comedy Circus, which Krushna joined primarily for financial reasons. As a dancer with no theater background like Bharti Singh or Kapil Sharma, he was thrilled to earn ₹1.5–2 lakh per episode. "Back then, I was doing Bhojpuri films where I earned around ₹3 lakh for an entire movie, working almost 30 days day and night. So earning the same amount in just one day here felt amazing," he recounted.

His entry into television was largely driven by his wife, Kashmera Shah, whom he met on the set of Pappu Paas Hogaya. Kashmera encouraged him to transition from Bhojpuri films to TV, predicting he would one day earn ₹25 lakh in a single day—a prophecy that came true. "Kashmera was the one who asked me to stop doing Bhojpuri films and start with television," Krushna acknowledged, crediting her as the force behind his success.

Reflections on Success and Resilience

Krushna's story is a testament to resilience, blending personal grief with professional determination. From mimicking Jackie Shroff—a skill Kashmera first witnessed—to becoming a household name, his journey underscores the reality that talent and hard work often outweigh familial connections. His openness about these struggles offers a raw, inspiring glimpse into the life of a comedian who turned adversity into laughter, proving that behind every successful man, there is indeed a supportive woman and an unyielding spirit.
