Kochi Police Arrest Film Director in Major Financial Fraud Case

In a significant development, the Kochi City police have apprehended a film director on serious charges of financial fraud and criminal breach of trust. This action follows a formal complaint lodged by the producer of the film, highlighting alleged misconduct that led to substantial monetary losses.

Details of the Arrest and Allegations

The arrested individual is Shamzu Zayba, also known as Shamsudeen, who directed the film Abhilasham. He was taken into custody by the Hill Palace police in Tripunithura, a suburb of Kochi. The complaint was filed by Ann Sariga Antony, a native of Tripunithura and the producer representing 'Second Show Productions'. She has accused the director and others involved in the project of causing her losses amounting to approximately Rs 4 crore.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the director initially assured the producer that the film could be completed within a budget of Rs 2.25 crore. However, the complainant alleges that the production was intentionally delayed, resulting in expenditures ballooning to Rs 3.25 crore. Furthermore, the FIR states that hard disks containing the final work of the film were misused, and the completed master print was taken into the director's possession without the producer's consent, allegedly with assistance from others.
