Karisma Kapoor shares Sunny Deol's 'Jeet' song rehearsal story

Bollywood icon Karisma Kapoor, celebrated for timeless hits like 'Raja Hindustani' and 'Dil To Pagal Hai', recently shared a delightful behind-the-scenes memory that highlights the dedication of a co-star from her early days. The actress, a perennial favourite for her grace and dancing skills, recounted this tale on 'The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show'. The story offers a sweet glimpse into the making of the popular track 'Yaara O Yaara' from the 1996 blockbuster 'Jeet'.

The Early Morning Rehearsal That Impressed Karisma

Prompted by host Kapil Sharma's question about working with Sunny Deol on the song, Karisma Kapoor took a trip down memory lane. She set the scene in 1994 or 1995, noting she was very new to the film industry at the time. The song was being filmed in the picturesque locales of Switzerland under the direction of the legendary Yash Chopra.

"The next day, I woke up at 5 am and the song started playing," Karisma recalled. When she stepped onto her balcony, she was taken aback by the sight below. "I came to the balcony and looked down, and Sunny sir was busy rehearsing."

Intrigued and feeling like a newcomer, she went downstairs to ask him about it. "I came downstairs and said, 'Sir, I'm a newcomer. Why are you rehearsing?'" To this, Sunny Deol gave a simple yet earnest reply: "No, no, I want to dance with you, I'll rehearse." Karisma fondly added with a smile that once the song was finally shot, "He looked cute in it."

Karisma Kapoor's Take on 90s and 2000s Filmmaking

The conversation then veered towards the distinct work culture of Bollywood in the 1990s and early 2000s. When Kapil asked if actors back then would accept or reject films based solely on the title, Karisma gave a candid affirmation.

"Sir, that's how it used to be in the 90s and 2000s," she stated. She elaborated on the informal and fast-paced nature of productions during that era. "Sometimes there wasn't even a script."

She also highlighted the remarkable speed at which songs were completed. "And songs used to be shot in a single day, right? Working with Chi Chi Bhaiya (Govinda), we would finish a song in one day. Sometimes a song was shot in just one shot!" This insight paints a vivid picture of a more spontaneous and high-energy period in Indian cinema.

Remembering the Film 'Jeet'

The film that started this nostalgic conversation, 'Jeet', remains a significant part of 90s Bollywood. Directed by Raj Kanwar, the movie was released in 1996 and featured Sunny Deol and Karisma Kapoor in lead roles, with Salman Khan and Tabu in pivotal supporting parts.

The film was a major commercial success, cementing its place as a box office hit of the year. The song 'Yaara O Yaara', beautifully rendered by singers Vinod Rathod and Alka Yagnik, became one of the movie's most memorable and enduring musical numbers, loved by audiences for decades.

Karisma Kapoor's anecdote is more than just a charming memory; it is a testament to the professionalism and unexpected moments of camaraderie that defined a golden chapter in Bollywood. It reminds fans of the human effort and occasional sweetness behind the glamorous song-and-dance sequences they adore.
