Demi Lovato: Wedding Menu Was 'Intimidating' Amid Recovery

Demi Lovato Opens Up About Wedding Planning Challenges Amid Eating Disorder Recovery

Singer-songwriter Demi Lovato has candidly shared details about her wedding planning experience, revealing that one specific aspect felt particularly "intimidating" due to her ongoing journey with an eating disorder. The 33-year-old artist discussed this while promoting the launch of her new cookbook, titled 'One Plate at a Time: Recipes for Finding Freedom with Food'.

Cookbook Inspired by Personal Struggles with Food

During a conversation with influencer and author Eli Rallo, Lovato explained how her long-term battle with an eating disorder directly inspired the creation of her cookbook. "I think it's reflective of where I'm at in my journey of recovery with disordered eating and my eating disorder", she stated. Lovato emphasized that this process has been a lengthy one, noting that her first treatment for an eating disorder occurred when she was just 18 years old.

"It's taken me a long time to get here, to get comfortable around food, to step into the kitchen", Lovato admitted. She added that recovery can be a slow and arduous process for many individuals, and she counts herself among them. However, she expressed immense pride in her progress and excitement about sharing her journey through the recipes developed for the book.

Wedding Menu Selection Proved Daunting

Lovato, who married musician Jordan 'Jutes' Lutes, 34, in a romantic ceremony in Santa Barbara, California, on May 25 last summer, revealed that choosing the cuisine for their nuptials was a significant challenge. The 'Heart Attack' singer described the menu planning as "intimidating", but credited her husband's unwavering support for helping her navigate it successfully.

"We were particular with what we had on the menu when we did a testing, so the caterer came to my house and cooked, I think it was 18 different foods", Lovato recounted. "And that was intimidating, but I got through it with the support of my loving husband and we ended up deciding on a few dishes". She explained that they were meticulous in selecting foods they genuinely loved, ensuring their wedding day was both personal and enjoyable.

A Celebration of Love and Recovery

Despite the initial apprehensions, Lovato shared that her wedding day was ultimately a blast, filled with joy and celebration. Her experience highlights the intersection of personal health struggles with life's major milestones, demonstrating how recovery can influence everyday decisions, even in festive contexts.

This revelation comes as Lovato continues to advocate for mental health and eating disorder awareness, using her platform to inspire others on similar paths. Her cookbook serves as a tangible extension of her recovery, offering recipes designed to foster a healthier relationship with food.
