Chitrangda Singh Opens Up About Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi Sequel

Chitrangda Singh has shared details about how her debut film, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, once came close to getting a sequel. The politically charged drama, which launched her career, remains one of Indian cinema's most impactful films. According to Singh, there was a serious attempt to revisit its world and characters through a follow-up that would continue their journeys.

The Idea of Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi 2

In a recent conversation with Variety India, Singh revealed that producer Pritish Nandy was deeply invested in a continuation titled Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi 2. The plan involved director Sudhir Mishra returning to expand the story from where it ended. The intention was to explore what happened to the central characters after the emotional and political upheavals of the first film. However, after Nandy's passing in January 2025, Singh shared that the project now feels uncertain and may not move forward.

Chitrangda Singh's Debut That Left a Mark

In Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Singh played Geeta Rao, a role that placed her alongside Kay Kay Menon and Shiney Ahuja. Set during the politically turbulent 1970s, the film followed three young individuals navigating love, ideology, and disillusionment. Their lives intersect against a changing nation, creating a deeply layered narrative still discussed years later. By the story's end, Siddharth moves abroad for medical studies, Geeta takes a quieter rural path, and Vikram deals with the consequences of his political involvement and injuries.

The duo last collaborated on Inkaar, a film addressing workplace relationships and power dynamics. She also mentioned her long-standing wish to collaborate with filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, highlighting her interest in working with strong storytellers.

On the professional front, Singh will next be seen opposite Salman Khan in Maatrubhumi. The film was earlier planned for an April 2026 release but has been postponed; the makers have yet to announce a new date.
