Several prominent Bollywood figures stepped out on Thursday to cast their votes in the ongoing civic elections across Maharashtra. These celebrities actively participated in the democratic process while encouraging fellow citizens to do the same.
Johnny Lever and Son Exercise Democratic Right
Veteran actor and comedian Johnny Lever arrived at a polling station accompanied by his son Jessy Lever. After casting his vote, Lever spoke passionately about electoral participation. He told ANI that voting represents both an important responsibility and a fundamental right for every citizen.
"Everyone should vote," Lever emphasized. "Voting is everyone's right." His straightforward message resonated with many voters observing the celebrity's civic engagement.
Subhash Ghai Expresses Mumbai Pride
Renowned film director Subhash Ghai also visited a polling booth to exercise his franchise. Ghai spoke about his deep connection with Mumbai and his sense of duty toward the city that shaped his career.
"I have voted, and I am very proud of Maharashtra," Ghai stated. "Whatever I am today is because of Mumbai, so it is my duty, and everyone's duty, to come out and vote." His words highlighted the personal significance many residents attach to these local elections.
Manava Naik Highlights Urban Concerns
Actress Manava Naik joined other celebrities in fulfilling her civic responsibility. After voting, she described the act as "the most important thing to do today." Naik also voiced concerns about specific urban issues affecting Mumbai's quality of life.
"Mumbai is one of the most important cities in India," she noted, "and I think we need to do something about the pollution here." Her comments connected the electoral process directly to addressing practical urban challenges.
Widespread Polling Across Maharashtra's Urban Centers
The civic elections encompass twenty-nine municipal corporations throughout Maharashtra. Major cities participating include:

- Pimpri-Chinchwad
These elections follow extensive campaigning and carry significant implications for urban governance across the state. Political alliances have formed distinct configurations in different regions.
Political Landscape and Voter Participation
The Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiv Sena are contesting together under the Mahayuti alliance in most locations, though Pune represents an exception. The Nationalist Congress Party is fielding candidates independently in several corporations. Interestingly, both NCP factions have united in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad with a shared manifesto.
According to the State Election Commission, approximately 3.48 crore voters possess eligibility to participate in these elections. A substantial 15,908 candidates are competing for 2,869 seats distributed across 893 municipal wards.
Authorities have established 39,092 polling centers statewide to facilitate smooth voting operations. Polling commenced at 7:30 AM on Thursday, January 15, and will continue until 5:30 PM. Vote counting is scheduled for Friday, January 16, when results will determine urban leadership across Maharashtra's major cities.
