WhatsApp Tests Side Chat Feature with Meta AI for Private Real-Time Assistance
WhatsApp Tests Side Chat with Meta AI for Private Help

WhatsApp is testing a new 'Side Chat' feature that allows users to access Meta AI privately while chatting with others, providing real-time information without saving the conversation. This feature enables users to get assistance from Meta AI in a separate, private window, ensuring that the main chat remains unaffected and the AI interaction is not stored.

Private and Incognito Modes

Alongside Side Chat, WhatsApp is also testing an 'Incognito' mode for Meta AI chats. In this mode, conversations are fully protected, with no access even by Meta, and messages disappear after a set time. This ensures that sensitive queries remain confidential and ephemeral.

Private Processing Technology

Both Side Chat and Incognito modes utilize Meta's Private Processing technology. This technology ensures that conversations are processed in a secure environment that is inaccessible to anyone, including Meta. This means that even the company cannot view or retrieve the content of these AI interactions.

Cross-Platform Calling Feature

In addition to these AI features, Meta is also testing a cross-platform calling capability. This feature enables voice and video calls in group chats directly from a browser via QR code, without requiring a standalone app. This allows users to join calls from any device with a browser, enhancing flexibility and accessibility.

These developments are part of Meta's ongoing efforts to integrate AI into WhatsApp while prioritizing user privacy. The features are currently in testing and may be rolled out to users in future updates.
