Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni Lawyers Summoned for Settlement Talks in Legal Battle

In a significant development in the ongoing legal dispute between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, the attorneys representing the two stars of the film 'It Ends With Us' have reportedly been summoned for settlement discussions. This update comes just hours after Lively faced a major setback when a US judge dismissed 10 out of 13 claims in the lawsuit, including allegations of sexual harassment.

Unexpected Call for Settlement Negotiations

According to reports from the Daily Mail, the lawyers for both actors have been unexpectedly called to discuss their clients' latest openness to settling the case before it proceeds to trial. Both sides have been instructed to address 'their client's updated settlement position' in separate sessions scheduled for Monday. These sessions will be conducted via phone calls with US Magistrate Judge Sarah Cave and will not be open to the public.

Lively's legal team is set to participate first at 3 PM, followed by Baldoni and his company, Wayfarer Productions, an hour later. This move follows previous settlement talks held in mid-February, which lasted for several hours but ultimately proved futile, with both parties preparing for trial.

Judge's Ruling Narrows the Case

The timing of these new settlement discussions is notable, as Manhattan federal judge Lewis Liman recently dismissed defamation and conspiracy claims brought by Lively. However, he allowed her claims of retaliation and breach of contract against Baldoni to stand. The civil trial is currently scheduled to begin on May 18, adding urgency to the potential for a resolution.

Legal Teams React to the Developments

Baldoni's lead attorney, Bryan Freedman, broke his silence on the judge's ruling, expressing gratification. In a statement to TMZ, he said, 'It is gratifying to see that the court's ruling confirms what the legal team believed from day one.' He reiterated that neither Baldoni nor any other defendants engaged in sexual harassment, emphasizing their commitment to a vigorous defense based on transparency.

Supporting attorneys Alexandra Shapiro and Jonathan Bach also expressed pleasure over the dismissal of sexual harassment claims and all claims against individual defendants. They stated, 'We're very pleased the Court dismissed all sexual harassment claims and every claim brought against the individual defendants.' They added that they look forward to presenting their defense to the remaining claims in court.

On the other side, Lively's attorney, Michael Gottlieb, insisted that despite the dismissal of sexual harassment claims, the allegations remain 'the beating heart of Ms. Lively's case.' He explained that the court held these claims could not proceed to a jury due to technicalities, such as Lively being an independent contractor and the conduct occurring in New Jersey instead of California.

Background of the Lawsuit

The lawsuit originated when Lively filed a complaint against Baldoni and producer Jamey Heath, alleging inappropriate behavior during the filming of 'It Ends With Us'. The complaint accused Baldoni of making inappropriate comments about his sex life and attempting to add unscripted sex scenes. It also alleged that Heath watched Lively while she was topless without consent and that Baldoni waged a PR campaign to damage her reputation.

In response, Baldoni and Wayfarer countersued Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, for extortion and defamation, but those claims were dismissed by Judge Liman last year. Wayfarer has consistently denied any retaliation against Lively.

As the legal teams prepare for Monday's settlement talks, the entertainment world watches closely to see if a resolution can be reached or if the case will head to trial in May.
