Bipasha Basu's Festive Month: Baisakhi, Bengali New Year & Wedding Tale

Bipasha Basu Embraces Dual Festivities in a Month of Celebrations

For Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu, April is a month brimming with joy and cultural significance. The actress recently celebrated Baisakhi, a vibrant Punjabi festival, and is now eagerly anticipating Poila Boishakh, the Bengali New Year. This period holds deep personal meaning, as it coincides with the anniversary of her husband, actor Karan Singh Grover's marriage proposal a decade ago.

A Decade-Long Love Story Rooted in Tradition

Bipasha Basu reveals that this festive season is intertwined with her romantic journey. "It's always a special month for us, as it is also associated with our wedding anniversary on April 30. It's a joyous time for us as a family," she shares. The actress, known for her role in Raaz, recounts a humorous anecdote about their engagement. "Karan proposed to me in January 2016, and we planned to marry later that year. But a friend warned him, 'You are going to wait that much? She's a catch, she's going to run away.' So, he approached my mother for the first available date," she explains.

Due to Bengali customs, weddings could only occur after Poila Boishakh, leading to their summer wedding on April 30. "Our life stories are quite funny," Bipasha adds with a smile.

Bengali New Year: A Culinary Celebration of Love

For Bipasha, Poila Boishakh revolves around food and family. "I'm a very simple Bengali girl who loves a lot of food and mishti (sweets). I love mishti so much that I gave my daughter the nickname, Mishti. It's only my mother who calls her that, however, she prefers to be called Devi, she's quite a goddess in her own way," she says. Emphasizing her cultural roots, she notes, "We, Bengalis, only celebrate with food. That's our love language."

The festivities extend to family gatherings, with Baisakhi following Poila Boishakh. "Our families always meet and eat together. If you are from a Bengali household, you would know how we love to get together, chat and eat. Everyone talks at the same time, and everyone understands everything," she laughs.

Personal Style and Life Philosophy

Despite the festive occasions, Bipasha prefers simplicity in her attire. "I am quite a lazy girl in my real space, but I love to be in comfortable clothes. I think the maximum effort of dressing up is for my work. In my house, my husband loves to dress up, my daughter loves to dress up, but I am the person who doesn't like to dress up much," she admits.

When it comes to New Year resolutions, Bipasha has a grounded approach. "I'm pretty happy with all the decisions that I make in life. I'm quite a deep thinker and I don't make rash decisions ever. I'm a Capricorn, I'm a goat — slow and steady, hardworking, and we plan a lot. Everything in my life is organized, so there's nothing that I can really think of leaving behind now," she concludes, reflecting her thoughtful nature.
