Bhavana Makes Reality TV Debut as Judge on Innovative Malayalam Show
Malayalam cinema's beloved actress Bhavana is stepping into the world of reality television in a groundbreaking role. She will not be participating as a host or contestant, but rather as a judge on the first-ever comedy-cookery show in Malayalam, titled 'Comedy Cooks'. In an exclusive interview, Bhavana expressed her enthusiasm for this new chapter in her career, highlighting how the entertainment landscape has evolved.
Blurring the Lines Between Cinema and Television
While some actors remain hesitant about reality TV, Bhavana believes the traditional divide between television and cinema has largely disappeared. She pointed to industry giants like Mohanlal, Vijay Sethupathi, and Kamal Haasan, who have successfully dominated the reality TV space. "I don't think there still exists a divide between TV and cinema anymore," Bhavana stated. "I agree there was such a clear line of divide in the last decade, but now that line is all gone."
She shared that earlier opportunities to join TV shows were challenging due to conflicting movie schedules, but a current break before her next film shoot allowed this venture to align perfectly. "Finally, everything fell in place, and here I am," she added, embracing this fun ride.
'Comedy Cooks': A Unique Blend of Humor and Culinary Arts
'Comedy Cooks' is set to feature popular personalities from both television and social media, creating a vibrant mix of comedy and cooking that promises to entertain Malayali audiences with its novel format. Bhavana clarified her role on the show, emphasizing that she won't be critiquing culinary expertise. "As a judge, I don't intend to comment on the contestant's culinary skills; we have Chef Nalan to do that most authentically," she explained.
Instead, her focus is on the enjoyment and uniqueness of the experience. "The fun lover in me is hoping for a fun experience, and the foodie in me is eagerly awaiting a tasty treat," Bhavana said. She noted that the show's diverse contestants from various age groups and backgrounds will add a special flavor, making it engaging for both her and viewers.
Adapting to the Unscripted World of Reality TV
Having filmed only a few episodes so far, Bhavana is already noticing significant differences between movie sets and reality show environments. In films, actors work with predefined scenes and dialogues, but reality TV operates without a script. "For a reality show, since there is no script, you don't know what you should do," she observed.
She recounted an initial hesitation during filming, where she waited for others to finish speaking before responding, only to learn that spontaneity is key. "On the first day of the shoot, I kept quiet till the other person finished their talk, thinking it was too rude to interrupt," Bhavana shared. "But, it was new to me when the team said, 'You should say what you feel right at the moment; if you wait till the other one stops, you will never get to talk.' That was totally a new experience for me."
This venture marks an exciting expansion of Bhavana's career, as she navigates the dynamic and unscripted realm of reality television, bringing her charm and insight to 'Comedy Cooks'.
