Ayesha Khan Confronts Period-Shaming Backlash After Dhurandhar Revelation

Bollywood actress Ayesha Khan has publicly addressed the significant backlash and online mockery she faced after revealing that she shot the energetic dance track Shararat while on her period for Aditya Dhar's espionage thriller Dhurandhar. Speaking candidly at a recent summit organized by Mojo Story, Khan expressed her surprise at how a simple, normal confession about her menstrual cycle was transformed into widespread meme material across social media platforms.

Normal Experience Turned into National Joke

"It's unfortunate that whatever you do or say these days, everything is a joke, dark humour, and fun. It's a good thing that you can laugh about everything. But to laugh at anything and everything isn't exactly fun. I probably didn't even realise it because it's so normal for me. Every month, we go through this cycle. We do so many things when we're on periods," Ayesha Khan stated during her emotional address.

Recalling the intense social media storm that followed her revelation, Khan added with visible frustration, "Me being on periods had suddenly become a national joke." She specifically highlighted how the mockery even co-opted the trending "peak detailing by Aditya Dhar" meme format that was circulating online at the time.

Call for Education and Changing Perspectives

The actress delivered a blunt assessment of the situation, pointing directly at gender dynamics in online spaces. "We really need to educate our sons and brothers. I'm sure the jokes were from men. It was really bad," she asserted without hesitation.

Despite facing considerable trolling and insensitive comments, Khan made it unequivocally clear that she felt absolutely no shame about her experience. "I'm a proud woman. I was really, really proud of whatever I did while being on periods. You wouldn't be able to do that without being on periods. I did that on my periods," she declared with confidence and conviction.

Normalizing Women's Everyday Experiences

Emphasizing that her experience was far from exceptional or unusual, Ayesha Khan highlighted how women across all professions and walks of life continue to perform at their absolute best while managing their menstrual cycles every single month.

"I'm sure there were 100 women in this room. There would be at least five or two women who'd be on periods right now. We just don't realise it because we don't make a big deal about it. So, if we don't make a big deal out of it, you can chill," she remarked, encouraging a more relaxed and understanding perspective toward this natural biological process.

Personal Reflections on Filming Experience

Ayesha Khan acknowledged that she considers herself fortunate not to suffer from severe physical pain or debilitating symptoms during her menstrual periods. However, she did admit to feeling somewhat self-conscious while filming the high-energy dance sequence for Shararat.

"Of course, I felt I wasn't looking my best because I was bloated. It's the song, so you want to look your best. You're just so excited you want to look your best," she shared, revealing the personal considerations that performers navigate even during routine biological processes.
