Suresh Gopi Calls for Public Involvement in Swachh Bharat Mission
Union Minister Suresh Gopi on Monday stressed that the success of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan hinges on active participation from the public. Speaking at an event in Mangaluru, he urged citizens to take ownership of cleanliness drives and make the mission a mass movement.
Appeal to Youth for Tree Plantation Campaign
Gopi also appealed to the younger generation to actively participate in the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, an initiative encouraging individuals to plant a tree in honor of their mother. He highlighted the environmental benefits and the symbolic gesture of gratitude.
“The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan cannot succeed without the involvement of every citizen. I call upon the youth to lead by example and contribute to a cleaner India,” Gopi said during the event.
Campaign Impact and Future Goals
The minister noted that over 10 crore trees have been planted under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign since its launch. He encouraged schools and colleges to integrate tree planting into their curriculum to foster environmental consciousness.
Gopi’s remarks come as part of a broader push by the government to sustain momentum for cleanliness and afforestation. The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, launched in 2014, has significantly improved sanitation coverage across India, but officials stress that behavioral change remains critical.
