Actress Amanda Seyfried has shared her exciting vision for the future of her beloved character, Sophie Sheridan, if a third Mamma Mia! film becomes a reality. Speaking at a recent Los Angeles event, Seyfried expressed a strong desire to see Sophie embrace motherhood, much like her on-screen mother Donna did.
Seyfried's Personal Inspiration for Sophie's Future
While attending the premiere of The Testament of Ann Lee in Los Angeles on December 22, the 40-year-old star opened up to People magazine. Seyfried, who is a mother of two in real life, passionately connected her personal experiences to her character's potential arc. "Oh, with kids. I mean, I love being a mother," she stated. She elaborated that she would love to dive into the story of Sophie raising children on a picturesque Greek island, mirroring how Meryl Streep's character Donna raised her.
"I love playing a mother, and I would love to dive into the curiosities of motherhood and raising children on a Greek island, just like Donna did with Sophie," Seyfried added. She played the daughter of Donna in the original 2008 musical film and its 2018 sequel.
Development Update and Potential New Cast
Fans of the ABBA-inspired franchise have reason to be optimistic. Producer Judy Craymer confirmed that a script for Mamma Mia 3 has been completed. The film is intended as a follow-up to the 2018 prequel-sequel, 'Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,' and remains actively in development.
In a tantalizing hint for fans, Craymer also suggested the possibility of pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter joining the star-studded ensemble. This new addition would presumably share the screen with returning stars Amanda Seyfried and the iconic Meryl Streep, 76.
Seyfried's Unwavering Commitment and Real-Life Parallels
Amanda Seyfried's enthusiasm for the project is unmistakable. She vowed to People magazine, "I'm going to keep campaigning for that movie until I'm blue in the face." While she admitted she doesn't know the exact direction of the story, she is confident it will involve plenty of the singing and dancing that defines the franchise.
Off-screen, Seyfried's own life beautifully parallels her hopes for Sophie. She is a mother to an 8-year-old daughter, Nina, and a 5-year-old son, Thomas, with her husband, actor Thomas Sadoski. The couple, who got engaged in 2016 and eloped in a private 2017 ceremony, reportedly live on a farm in upstate New York with their children, embracing a family-centric life.
