Ajay Devgn Reflects on 35-Year Career, Phool Aur Kaante Stunt

Over the last 35 years, Ajay Devgn has established himself as one of Bollywood's most dependable stars. From action-packed entertainers and emotional dramas to comedies and franchise films, the actor has consistently reinvented himself across genres. The actor looked back at several memorable 'firsts' from his career, including the terrifying stunt from 'Phool Aur Kaante'.

Ajay Devgn on the famous 'Phool Aur Kaante' stunt

In an interaction with Variety India, Ajay Devgn revealed that the first major stunt of his acting career still remains the most frightening one for him. Recalling his famous entry scene from 'Phool Aur Kaante', where he balanced himself between two moving bikes, the actor admitted it was extremely risky at the time.

The actor shared, 'It was the first stunt of my life: standing on two bikes for 'Phool Aur Kaante.' At the time, there was no CGI, no cables and the bikes had to be coordinated, so it was very scary. I mean it was not about doing a split, it was about the bikers also coordinating and riding in sync'.

When Mahesh Bhatt narrated 'Zakhm' while he was showering

One of the most amusing memories Ajay shared involved filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt narrating the script of 'Zakhm' to him over a bathroom landline while he was taking a shower in a Hyderabad hotel. Recalling the incident, Ajay said there were no mobile phones back then, and Bhatt Saab insisted on narrating the film immediately instead of waiting for a callback.

'I was in the shower when the bathroom phone rang,' the actor recalled. 'Bhatt Saab said, 'I want you to do a film for me.' I told him I was bathing and would call later, but he insisted.' Ajay further revealed that within just two minutes, Mahesh Bhatt narrated the core story of 'Zakhm', and the actor instantly agreed to be a part of the project.

Why Ajay Devgn trusts only his instincts

Unlike many actors who seek opinions before signing films, Ajay Devgn admitted that he has always depended on his own instincts while selecting scripts. 'Honestly, nobody,' he said when asked who he consults for honest feedback. According to the actor, if he connects emotionally with a story, he goes ahead with it without relying heavily on outside validation.

The secret behind Ajay Devgn's long-lasting career

When asked about the formula behind his success, Ajay Devgn kept it simple. 'Never cheat on your work, dedication and believe in yourself,' he stated, adding that these principles have guided him throughout his career. As he completes nearly three-and-a-half decades in Bollywood, the actor expressed gratitude towards his fans for supporting him consistently over the years. 'It's been nearly 35 years and whatever I am today is because of the audience,' Ajay said while thanking fans for their unconditional love and support.

On the work front, Ajay Devgn is busy with the filming of 'Drishyam 3', which is slated to release on October 2. He also has 'Dhamaal 4' and 'Golmaal 5' in the pipeline.
