A former student of Lucknow University has achieved a significant national literary honour. Shivam Singh has been selected for the highly competitive third edition of the Prime Minister's Young Writers Mentorship Scheme, widely known as PM-YUVA.
Elite Selection in National Programme
This national-level initiative is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Education and the National Book Trust (NBT). Its core mission is to identify and nurture young literary talent across India, encouraging original writing that promotes Indian languages and culture.
Shivam's accomplishment stands out because he is one of only six young writers from across the entire country chosen in the Hindi language category this year. This places the Barabanki resident within an elite group of emerging authors at the national level.
Academic Journey and Literary Dream
Shivam Singh completed both his graduation and post-graduation in Hindi from Lucknow University. He is currently pursuing his PhD from Delhi University. Reflecting on his selection, Shivam expressed profound gratitude and pride.
"This selection is a dream come true for me," Shivam said. "Lucknow University played a crucial role in shaping my academic and literary journey, and being chosen among the top young Hindi writers of the country is a matter of immense pride."
Mentorship, Stipend, and Publication
The YUVA scheme, which stands for 'Young, Upcoming & Versatile Authors', is designed to mentor writers under the age of 30. It aims to boost Indian writing, culture, and heritage on global platforms. Selected authors receive comprehensive support, including:
- Professional mentorship from literary experts.
- A financial grant of Rs 50,000 per month for six months.
- Workshops to hone their writing skills.
- A guaranteed publication opportunity through the NBT.
Under this scheme, Shivam will work on authoring a significant book focused on the makers of modern India. This work will be published by the NBT, providing him with a rare and valuable opportunity to reach a wide national readership at an early stage in his career.
"Through my book on the makers of modern India, I want young readers to connect with the ideas, struggles and vision of those who shaped our nation," Shivam added, outlining his vision for the project.
The PM-YUVA scheme promotes themes like democracy and national heritage, aiming to foster a new generation of authors who can represent India on both national and international stages. Shivam Singh's journey from Lucknow University to this national platform serves as an inspiration for aspiring writers across the country.
