Janardhanpant Bothe Gets Padma Shri for Gramgeeta Work in Amravati

Amravati Social Worker Honoured with Padma Shri for Preserving Spiritual Legacy

In a significant recognition of grassroots social work, Janardhanpant Bothe, the general secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Shri Gurudev Seva Mandal based in Amravati, has been conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri award. This honour celebrates his lifelong dedication to propagating the teachings and philosophy of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj through the transformative text Gramgeeta.

Carrying Forward a Vision of Rural Transformation

Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj, a revered spiritual figure, devoted his existence to the upliftment of rural India. His seminal work, Gramgeeta, serves as a blueprint for social change, emphasizing village development, moral values, and community harmony. Bothe, hailing from Mozari in Teosa taluka of Amravati district, has been instrumental in ensuring this vision reaches every corner of the nation.

Bothe's journey is deeply intertwined with Tukdoji Maharaj's mission. Having served as the saint's personal assistant, he imbibed the core principles of Gramoddhara (village development). Under his stewardship, numerous initiatives have flourished, focusing on:

  • Eradicating addiction in rural areas
  • Promoting cleanliness and sanitation drives
  • Organizing collective prayers and spiritual gatherings

Transforming Gurukunj Mozari Ashram into a Social Hub

Bothe has dedicated his life to the Gurukunj Mozari Ashram in Amravati, the very karmabhoomi (workplace) of Tukdoji Maharaj. Through his relentless efforts, the ashram has evolved into a vibrant centre for social and cultural activities. One of his notable contributions is the meticulous documentation of the saint's national and international engagements through photographs.

Captured during an era with limited technological resources, these photographs have now become an invaluable historical archive. To preserve this legacy, a dedicated art gallery is being established at Gurukunj Mozari with funding from the state government. This initiative aims to ensure that the life and journey of Tukdoji Maharaj inspire future generations.

Expanding the Reach of Gramgeeta Across India

Under Bothe's dynamic leadership, the Akhil Bharatiya Shri Gurudev Seva Mandal has witnessed exponential growth. Today, the organization boasts:

  1. More than 10,000 rural branches actively promoting the message of Gramgeeta
  2. Over 850 women's committees working towards social empowerment

Bothe tirelessly travels across the country, visiting various branches of the All India Gurudev Sewa Mandal. He attends programmes, offers guidance, and ensures the smooth functioning of the organization's activities, thereby strengthening the network dedicated to rural development.

A Humble Dedication to Collective Efforts

Upon receiving the Padma Shri, Bothe expressed profound gratitude, stating, "I dedicate this honour to all those who cooperated with me in taking forward the thoughts of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj." His words reflect the collaborative spirit that has driven his mission.

The annual Punyatithi Mahotsav (death anniversary) of Tukdoji Maharaj, meticulously organized by Bothe, stands as a testament to his exceptional organizational skills and unwavering commitment. Through his work, the principles of Gramgeeta continue to illuminate the path towards a brighter, more prosperous India, rooted in its villages.
