Rajarshi Shahu Puraskar-2026 for Historian Jaysingrao Pawar
The Rajarshi Shahu Puraskar-2026 will be conferred posthumously upon eminent historian Jaysingrao Pawar, who recently passed away on March 26. The announcement was made by district collector and president of the Rajarshi Shahu Chhatrapati Memorial Trust, Vijay Rathod, on Thursday.
Award Ceremony Details
The ceremony to confer the award will be held on June 26, which marks the birth anniversary of the legendary king and social reformer Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj. This year commemorates the 152nd birth anniversary of Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj. Pawar's family members will accept the award on his behalf.
About Dr. Jaysingrao Pawar
Dr. Jaysingrao Pawar was renowned for his research in history, particularly the Maratha period. Born into a farmers' family in 1941, he pursued higher education and earned a PhD from Shivaji University, Kolhapur. He also served as the honorary director of the Rajarshi Shahu Research Centre established at Shivaji University Kolhapur. He authored over 40 books, with the 1,250-page Rajarshi Shahu Smarak Granth being a milestone work. He was considered an authoritative voice on the Maratha period, according to Rathod.
The award recognizes Pawar's significant contributions to historical research and literature.
