The 56th International Film Festival of India is set to kick off with a powerful opening selection as Tamil superstar Sivakarthikeyan's war drama Amaran has been chosen to inaugurate the prestigious Indian Panorama section.

Directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy, Amaran will set the stage for one of India's most celebrated cinematic events, scheduled to run from November 20 to 28 in Goa. The film's selection as the opening feature underscores its artistic merit and the festival's commitment to showcasing diverse regional cinema.
The Indian Panorama section presents an ambitious collection of 25 feature films, 20 non-feature films, and five streaming series, representing the rich tapestry of Indian languages and cultural traditions. This year's selection process was particularly competitive, with the feature film jury receiving over 516 submissions from across the country.

Veteran actor, filmmaker, and producer Raja Bundela chaired the feature film jury that made the final selections. The chosen films span multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Marathi, Kannada, Bengali, Assamese, Manipuri, Oriya, Tulu, and Rajasthani, truly reflecting India's cinematic diversity.

The mainstream cinema section will prominently feature commercial successes including Laxman Utekar's Chhaava (Hindi), Tharun Moorthy's Thudarum (Malayalam), and Anil Ravipudi's Sankranthiki Vastunnam (Telugu).
New Categories and Streaming Recognition
In a significant development, IFFI has introduced nominations for the Best Web Series Award, acknowledging the growing importance of streaming content in the Indian entertainment landscape. Prime Video leads the nominations with three series - Bandish Bandits Season 2, Paatal Lok Season 2, and Suzhal - The Vortex Season 2.
The jury also announced five contenders for the Best Debut Director of Indian Feature Film Award, recognizing emerging talent in the industry. The non-feature film category, judged by a separate jury led by cinematographer-filmmaker Dharam Gulati, selected 20 titles from more than 550 entries, with Kamlesh K. Mishra's Hindi documentary Kakori opening this section.
