VTU Belagavi Prepares for Grand 25th Convocation Ceremony for Postgraduate Scholars
Belagavi's prestigious Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) is gearing up for a significant academic milestone as it organizes part two of its 25th Annual Convocation this Monday. The event is dedicated to conferring postgraduate and research degrees, including PhD, MSc (engineering) by research, and integrated dual degrees, marking a celebration of advanced scholarly achievements.
Convocation Details and Distinguished Guests
Speaking at a press conference held on Thursday at the VTU campus, Vice-Chancellor S Vidyashankar outlined the convocation's schedule. The ceremony is set to take place on February 2 at 11 am at the university's iconic 'Jnana Sangama' campus. A total of 8,702 students have been deemed eligible to receive their certificates, with 25 outstanding scholars slated to receive gold medals and 96 to be conferred various academic ranks.
The event will be presided over by the governor and chancellor of the university, Thaawar Chand Gehlot, adding a layer of official prestige. Rear Admiral Vikram Menon, officer commanding the Flag Karnataka Naval Area, will serve as the chief guest, while Minister for Higher Education MC Sudhakar will grace the occasion with his presence.
Academic Performance and Degree Distribution
Out of 9,540 students admitted for programs such as MBA, MCA, MTech, and PhD, an impressive 8,702 have met the eligibility criteria, resulting in an overall pass percentage of 91.2%. Notably, female students demonstrated superior performance with a pass percentage of 94.4%, compared to 87.9% for male students.
Vice-Chancellor Vidyashankar emphasized the university's commitment to timely certification, stating, "Intending to ensure that students' future career plans are not delayed, we are issuing degree certificates immediately after completion of their programmes." This convocation will see the conferral of 4,928 MBA, 2,960 MCA, 718 MTech, 59 MArch, 21 MPlan, and 16 MSc degrees.
This event follows the first part of the convocation held in July, which focused on awarding degree certificates to undergraduate students, completing the annual academic cycle.
Launch of the e-Vidyarthi Mitra Portal
In a move to enhance student support, VTU has launched the innovative e-Vidyarthi Mitra Portal for the first time. Inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor S Vidyashankar, this portal aims to address student grievances efficiently.
Vidyashankar explained, "If students face issues such as delays in marks cards, examination-related confusion, or administrative grievances, they can send an email directly through the portal and receive prompt resolution. All complaints will remain confidential. I will personally review the complaints and ensure speedy redressal."
The launch event was attended by key university officials, including VTU registrar Prof Prasad Rampure and registrar (Evaluation) Prof Ujwal UJ, underscoring the institution's dedication to student welfare.

The convocation also highlights academic excellence across affiliated colleges. Institutions with the highest number of ranks include:
- Bangalore Institute of Technology, Bengaluru: 8 ranks
- VTU PG Centre, Mysuru: 7 ranks
- VTU Constituent College UBDTCE, Davanagere: 6 ranks
- RNSIT, Bengaluru: 6 ranks
- Kurunji Venkataramana Gowda College of Engineering, Sullia: 5 ranks
- VTU PG Centre, Muddenahalli, Bengaluru: 5 ranks

- Parvati Salera from JJN National College, Shivamogga (MBA) – 4 gold medals, including 3 endowments
- Kavya HC from RNS Institute of Technology, Bengaluru (MCA) – 3 gold medals, including 2 endowments
- Sanchitha BS from UBDT College of Engineering, Davanagere (MTech in Power System Engineering) – 3 gold medals, including 2 endowments
- Yogesh Gowda from Bangalore Institute of Technology (MTech in Electronics & Communication Engineering) – 2 gold medals, including 1 endowment
