SRCC's Centennial Alumni Meet: A Nostalgic Homecoming for Graduates

Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) recently hosted a heartwarming alumni meet as part of its centenary celebrations, welcoming back graduates from across decades. The air was thick with nostalgia, old friendships, and the melodies of 80s classics, creating an unforgettable reunion atmosphere.

Ceremonial Traditions and Musical Nostalgia

The event featured significant ceremonial elements that symbolized the college's enduring legacy. A traditional buggy procession represented SRCC's rich history, while alumni lit traditional mashaals (torches), positioning themselves as torchbearers of the institution's heritage.

SRCC's Indian Music Society, Aarohan, set the emotional tone with nostalgic hits including Yeh Shaam Mastani, Chala Jaata Hoon, and Main Yahan Tu Kahan. Current students added to the welcome by performing Bharatnatyam for the returning alumni.

Emotional Reflections from Distinguished Alumni

Retired Supreme Court of India Judge Arjan Sikri, from the 1974 batch, shared his profound connection to the institution. "I've been visiting occasionally, but today's centenary celebration is extraordinary," he stated. "SRCC taught us not just knowledge, but how to apply it practically. Reuniting with friends, batchmates, and junior alumni is always wonderful."

Girish Ahuja, President of the Alumni Association and 1965 graduate, highlighted the special nature of this year's gathering. "We meet every second Sunday of February, but the 100-year milestone makes this exceptional," he recalled. "My college memories are vivid, though notably, there were no sports facilities and no female students during my time."

Principal's Joy and Alumni Experiences

SRCC Principal Prof Simrit Kaur expressed overwhelming delight at the turnout. "Calling myself immensely pleased would be an understatement," she exclaimed. "Many students have returned after 40 years!" In her address, she poetically remarked, "From where I stand, I see countless fireflies. Today, even stars in the sky must wish they could be fireflies on earth at SRCC."

Isha Gupta, class of 2006, visited for the first time since graduation. "Returning after 20 years feels like no time has passed," she reflected. "I vividly remember roaming the corridors and verandahs."

Enduring Legacy and Community Spirit

The event reinforced SRCC's reputation for cultivating sharp minds grounded in strong values. Distinguished attendees included:

  • Ajay S Shriram, Chairman of SRCC Governing Body
  • Justice (retd) Arjan Sikri (1974 batch)
  • CK Khanna, former BCCI president (1970 batch)
  • Vijay Goel, former MP (1974 batch)
  • Sushil Aggarwal, Secretary of Alumni Association (1980 batch)

The ceremonial buggy and torch lighting rituals powerfully symbolized the college's lasting impact, with alumni proudly carrying forward its heritage into future generations.
