Patliputra University Celebrates Academic Excellence at Fifth Convocation
The fifth convocation ceremony of Patliputra University (PPU) witnessed a remarkable display of academic prowess, with female students significantly outperforming their male counterparts in securing gold medals. The event, held at S K Memorial Hall in Patna on Thursday, highlighted the growing achievements of women in higher education within Bihar.
Gold Medal Distribution and Student Honors
University Vice-Chancellor Upendra Prasad Singh and Bihar State University Service Commission (BSUSC) Chairman G K Choudhary presided over the ceremony, distributing gold medals and certificates to 31 top performers from the postgraduate academic session 2023-25. Notably, 22 of these gold medals were awarded to girls, underscoring their dominant performance. In addition to the medal recipients, the university conferred degrees upon 800 postgraduate students and 65 PhD scholars who completed their requirements by December 31, 2025.
College-wise Medal Achievements
The distribution of gold medals across affiliated colleges revealed a competitive academic landscape:
- A N College led with six gold medals.
- College of Commerce, Arts and Science, J D Women’s College, and Nalanda College-Biharsharif each secured four medals.
- B D College and RLSY College-Bakhtiyarpur earned three medals each.
This breakdown illustrates the widespread academic excellence fostered by PPU across its network of institutions.
Dignitaries and Messages
Governor and Chancellor Arif Mohammed Khan was unable to attend in person. His principal secretary, Robert L Chongthu, delivered the chancellor's message to the assembled students, faculty, and guests. During his address, Vice-Chancellor Upendra Prasad Singh highlighted the university's recent accomplishments, particularly in academic advancements and aligning the academic session with the official calendar to ensure smoother operations.
BSUSC Chairman G K Choudhary extended his congratulations to the gold medallists, encouraging them to pursue bright futures. He emphasized the importance of continued hard work in building successful careers and making positive contributions to societal development, reflecting the university's commitment to nurturing responsible citizens.
Honorary Degree for Sports Icon
In a special segment, PPU Registrar Abu Bakar read a message from legendary tennis player Vijay Amritraj, who was conferred an honorary DLitt degree in recognition of his significant contributions to sports. Although absent, Amritraj expressed his gratitude and confirmed his intention to receive the honor in person during an upcoming visit to Patna, adding a touch of sporting prestige to the academic event.
The convocation not only celebrated individual achievements but also reinforced Patliputra University's role in promoting educational excellence and gender parity in Bihar's higher education sector.
