Patna University's Four-Year UG Admissions for 2026-27 Set to Start in May
The admission process for four-year undergraduate courses at Patna University (PU) for the 2026–27 academic session is anticipated to commence in the first week of May. This timeline emerged during a meeting of the university's academic calendar committee, which convened on Monday under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Ajay Kumar Singh.
Academic Calendar Finalization Pending
PU Dean of Students' Welfare Kameshwar Pandit informed that a conclusive decision on the university's new academic calendar could not be reached on Monday. The calendar, which outlines admission schedules for all undergraduate and postgraduate courses, examination dates, and result declarations, is expected to be finalized on Tuesday.
Reintroduction of Written Entrance Test
However, the committee has resolved that admissions to four-year bachelor honours programmes, encompassing both conventional and self-financed modes, will be conducted through a combined written test. This examination will be administered by the university following the completion of online application submissions.
The written test-based admission system is poised for reintroduction after a hiatus of nearly six years. The university has secured permission from the newly appointed chancellor of state universities to proceed with the entrance examination. PU initially implemented entrance tests for bachelor-level admissions in 2012 during the tenure of then Vice-Chancellor Shambhu Nath Singh, but the system was discontinued in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Necessary amendments to the admission ordinance were subsequently approved by the chancellor.
Online Application Details
Pandit indicated that online applications for UG admissions in the faculties of arts, science, and commerce across PU colleges are likely to open on May 5. These colleges include:
- Patna College
- B N College
- Magadh Mahila College
- Patna Science College
- Vanijya Mahavidyalaya
Aspirants will be required to apply through the Samarth portal, which the university is expected to launch shortly. This move aims to streamline the admission process and ensure efficiency for prospective students.
The reintroduction of the entrance test marks a significant shift in PU's admission strategy, potentially enhancing the selection process for undergraduate programmes. As the academic calendar is finalized, students and stakeholders await further details to prepare for the upcoming admission cycle.
