NITK Surathkal's NADAL Programme Launches with Inaugural Outdoor Trek
The National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, has marked a significant milestone by conducting its first outdoor trek under the NITK Academy for Defence, Adventure and Leadership (NADAL) minor degree programme, titled 'Resilient Leadership'. This event signals the commencement of experiential training activities designed to enhance student development through hands-on learning and adventure-based education.
Event Details and Student Participation
Held recently at Mudigere, the trek attracted 36 students who engaged in activities aimed at combining physical endurance, teamwork, and environmental awareness. The initiative is part of NADAL's broader mission to cultivate students into individuals who are physically robust, mentally resilient, and ethically grounded. By integrating defence preparedness, adventure education, and leadership training, NADAL seeks to provide a holistic educational experience that goes beyond traditional classroom settings.
Student participant Kruthika CS shared her reflections on the trek, describing it as both demanding and rewarding. She stated, "The trek was both challenging and enriching, offering opportunities to learn about the natural environment and to reflect on the experience as a whole." This feedback underscores the programme's effectiveness in fostering personal growth and practical skills through immersive outdoor activities.
Objectives and Structure of the NADAL Programme

Additionally, it provides exposure to defence experts, sports professionals, and industry leaders, enriching the learning experience.
Future Outlook and Broader Impact
The Mudigere trek represents the first in a series of planned outdoor learning activities under NADAL. According to a release from NITK, these initiatives are designed to prepare students to address national, social, and environmental challenges with resilience and integrity. By emphasizing experiential training, the programme aims to equip future leaders with the skills and mindset needed to navigate complex real-world scenarios effectively.
