The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has announced significant rule changes for the upcoming Maharaja Trophy T20 tournament. These modifications were unveiled during the trophy unveiling ceremony and primarily focus on the Impact Player (IP) rule and free hit regulations.
Impact Player Rule Modification
Under the new Impact Player rule, teams will now be allowed to substitute a player at any point during the innings, not just at the start. This change aims to provide more flexibility to captains and strategists, allowing them to adapt to match situations dynamically.
Free Hit Rule Update
The free hit rule has also been revised. Previously, a free hit was awarded only for front-foot no-balls. Now, any type of no-ball, including overstepping or throwing, will result in a free hit. This aligns with international standards and is expected to increase scoring opportunities.
The KSCA hopes these changes will make the tournament more exciting and competitive. The Maharaja Trophy, known for showcasing local talent, is scheduled to commence in August 2026.
