The National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS) in Pune has officially opened applications for its PhD programme commencing in August 2026. Mandatory Fellowship Qualifications

Prospective students must possess a valid Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) awarded by recognized national agencies. The accepted fellowships include:

  1. CSIR JRF
  2. UGC JRF
  3. DBT Category I JRF
  4. ICMR JRF
  5. BINC JRF

Additionally, candidates who have successfully qualified the JGEEBILS examination conducted by NCBS/TIFR in December 2025 are also eligible to apply. A limited number of NCCS fellowships will be available specifically for this category of applicants.

Application Process and Important Dates

All applications must be submitted exclusively through the online portal. Applicants are required to have an active Gmail account to complete the submission process. The deadline for online application submission is May 11, 2026.

Following the application closure, candidates will be shortlisted for interviews based on NCCS selection criteria. It is important to note that submission of an application does not guarantee an interview invitation or admission to the programme.

Age Limits and Reservation Policies

The upper age limit for JRF candidates is 28 years as of August 1, 2026. Age relaxation provisions are available for women, SC, ST, OBC, and PWD candidates as per Government of India guidelines.
