Lucknow University IPR Policy Covers Patent Filing Fees

Lucknow University Unveils Comprehensive Intellectual Property Rights Policy

In a significant move to foster innovation and research, Lucknow University announced the launch of its new Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) policy on Tuesday. This policy marks a pivotal shift by covering the patent filing fees for both faculty and students, which were previously the financial responsibility of the individuals themselves.

Establishment of a Dedicated IP Management Cell

To streamline and manage intellectual property effectively, the university has established a dedicated Intellectual Property Management (IPM) cell. This cell will serve as the custodian for all intellectual property generated within the university, ensuring proper oversight and protection.

Prof Geetanjali Misra, the coordinator of the IPM cell, elaborated on its multifaceted role. The cell will oversee a wide range of activities, including patent filings, licensing agreements, technology transfer processes, drafting of legal agreements, appointment of legal experts, and maintaining comprehensive documentation. Additionally, it will focus on educating faculty, students, and staff about IPR to enhance awareness and compliance.

Key Features and Future Initiatives

The IPM cell is also tasked with establishing partnerships for the commercialization of innovations and creating an IPR fund. This fund is designed to support patent filing from start to finish, providing financial backing for researchers throughout the process.

Vice-Chancellor JP Saini highlighted the policy's comprehensive nature. The policy clearly defines the rights and responsibilities of all stakeholders, including faculty, researchers, students, staff, and external collaborators. It ensures fair revenue sharing and transparent agreements for sponsored research, consultancy projects, and collaborative work. Furthermore, the policy incorporates confidentiality protocols, ethical practices, biodiversity safeguards, and fair use of traditional knowledge, addressing broader societal and environmental concerns.

This initiative is expected to boost research output and innovation at Lucknow University, making it more accessible and financially feasible for its academic community to protect and commercialize their intellectual creations.
