In a significant boost for youth employment in Telangana, Swiggy's quick commerce arm Instamart has joined forces with Young India Skills University (YISU) to create over 5,000 career opportunities in the fast-growing sector. The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Tuesday.
Building a Skilled Workforce for Quick Commerce
The core of this collaboration is a specialized skill-based academic programme designed for 5,000 young individuals. The initiative directly addresses the surging demand for trained talent in supply chain management, logistics, and retail operations, driven by the rapid expansion of quick commerce platforms that are reshaping how Indians shop for daily essentials.
The MoU was signed in the presence of V.L.V.S.S. Subba Rao, Vice-Chancellor of YISU, and Girish Menon, Chief Human Resources Officer at Swiggy Ltd. This formal agreement underscores a shared commitment to bridge the skill gap and prepare a job-ready workforce for the industry.
Structure of the Training Programme
The programme, a joint effort by YISU and Scootsy (Swiggy's logistics subsidiary), will be an intensive three-month course. It is meticulously designed to impart crucial operational and managerial skills specific to the quick commerce ecosystem, with a particular emphasis on dark store operations.
The curriculum will comprehensively cover:
- Quick commerce operating models and business fundamentals.
- Dark store management and end-to-end supply chain execution.
- Ensuring customer promise and service delivery based on strict SLAs (Service Level Agreements).
- Emerging trends and innovations in retail logistics.
The training methodology will blend classroom instruction with structured, hands-on field exposure. This practical approach aims to give participants a systems-level understanding of store execution, last-mile delivery coordination, and the key performance metrics needed to run quick commerce operations efficiently at scale.
Fast-Track to Leadership Roles
Upon successfully completing the course and a subsequent internship, students will receive a significant career head start. They will be fast-tracked into roles as Store Manager Trainees. This pathway is designed to prepare them for future leadership responsibilities within quick commerce fulfilment centres and operational hubs, offering a clear progression route in a dynamic industry.
This partnership between a leading industry player and a state skills university represents a concrete step towards aligning education with market needs. It promises to empower Telangana's youth with relevant, future-proof skills while supplying the quick commerce sector with the trained professionals it urgently requires to sustain its growth.
