In a significant move to boost civil service aspirations among local youth, Haveri University's Vice-Chancellor inaugurated a specialized training workshop aimed at guiding students for the prestigious Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations. The event, held on Saturday, marked a collaborative effort to bridge the guidance gap for aspirants from the region.
University Chief Calls for Early Start to UPSC Journey
Prof Suresh H Jangamashetti, the Vice-Chancellor of Haveri University, delivered a crucial message to students. He strongly advised that undergraduates and postgraduates from North Karnataka should initiate their preparation for higher civil service exams during their academic studies itself. Inaugurating the workshop organized in partnership with 'India for IAS', Prof Jangamashetti emphasized that the initiative is designed to provide direction and motivate students to seize the opportunity.
The VC affirmed the university's commitment, stating that the collaboration with India for IAS is poised to deliver appropriate and structured training tailored for these challenging competitive exams.
Addressing the Rural Participation Gap in UPSC
Prashant Srinivas, a trainer from India for IAS, pinpointed a critical trend during the session. He observed that students from rural backgrounds often do not apply for numerous UPSC exams. This lack of participation from Karnataka candidates, he explained, has inadvertently created a scenario where aspirants from North India secure a larger share of government job opportunities.
"Students from North Karnataka have been missing out on significant positions like IAS due to a lack of proper guidance and hesitation," Srinivas noted. He urged students to shed any feelings of inferiority and pursue these important roles with dedication. He assured that success in both UPSC and Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) exams is achievable through disciplined and consistent study patterns.
Experts Outline Pathways and Pledge Support
Competitive exam trainer Prof A Narayan Prasad provided a detailed outline of the various exams conducted by the UPSC. He stressed the importance of making degree students aware of job opportunities early so they can prepare adequately throughout their college years.
Prof Prasad highlighted that ample job opportunities exist within the government sector, and no one should be deprived of employment simply due to a lack of awareness. "Our institution is ready to offer all training and support to candidates taking competitive exams," he added, reinforcing the support system now being made accessible to Haveri University students.
The workshop represents a proactive step by Haveri University to empower its student community, aiming to increase representation from the region in India's elite civil services by providing the right guidance and resources from an early stage.
