Haveri University Inaugurates Computer Dept, Aims to Be Model Institution
Haveri University Computer Dept Inaugurated by MP, Bommai

In a significant development for higher education in the region, the computer department at Haveri University was officially inaugurated on Sunday. The event saw the presence of Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar and the university's founding figure, former chief minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai.

A Boost for Rural Higher Education

Speaking to reporters after the ceremony at the university's Kerimattihalli campus, MP Yaduveer Wadiyar highlighted the institution's critical role. He emphasized that Haveri University was established during Basavaraj Bommai's tenure as the chief minister. Wadiyar praised the campus for its vast environment and robust infrastructure, which provides excellent services to its student body.

He pointed out a key social impact of the university: it supports the education of underprivileged and poor children from the surrounding area. A major benefit is that it reduces the necessity for rural students to travel to distant cities for quality higher education, making advanced learning more accessible and affordable.

Functioning Without State Grants

Former CM Basavaraj Bommai provided insightful details about the university's current operational model. He revealed a notable fact: Haveri University is functioning without any grants from the state government. Despite this financial constraint and having very limited infrastructure, the institution has managed to award degrees to a large number of students.

Bommai also commended the university's administrative efficiency, noting that examinations are conducted and results are declared within a swift 15-day timeframe. Expressing strong confidence in its future, he stated that in the coming days, Haveri University will emerge as a model for others to follow.

An Appeal for Government Support

However, Bommai outlined a crucial step needed for the university's growth. He appealed to the state government to at least create the minimum required posts and make appointments at Haveri University. He explained that this action would make it easier to secure essential grants from the University Grants Commission (UGC) in the future, providing a more stable financial foundation for expansion and development.

The inauguration of the computer department marks a forward-looking step for the university, aligning its offerings with the demands of the modern digital economy and enhancing its capacity to serve the youth of the Haveri region.
