The university has been ranked 29th in India and 680th globally in the highly regarded UI GreenMetric World University Rankings for 2025, marking a significant achievement in its commitment to environmental stewardship.

What is the UI GreenMetric Ranking?

The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, an initiative launched by Universitas Indonesia in Jakarta, provides a comprehensive assessment of sustainability practices in higher education institutions across the globe. This framework evaluates universities on a broad spectrum of environmental and sustainability parameters. The core focus areas include environmental sustainability policies, efficient use of resources, proactive climate action, and the integration of sustainability into educational curricula and research programs.

GJUST's Performance Across Key Indicators

The ranking is determined based on six critical indicators, each with a specific weightage. GJUST's overall score was 6,287.5 points out of a possible 10,000. A detailed breakdown of the university's performance reveals its strengths and areas for further improvement.

The university scored highest in the Transportation (TR) category, securing 1,312.5 points, which highlights effective policies for sustainable mobility. It also performed well in Energy and Climate Change (EC) with 1,175 points and Setting and Infrastructure (SI) with 1,050 points. The scores in other categories were: Waste (WS) at 1,000 points, Water (WR) at 762.5 points, and Education and Research (ED) at 987.5 points.

University Leadership Celebrates Collective Effort

Following the announcement of the results, the Vice-Chancellor of GJUST, Professor Narsiram Bishnoi, extended his congratulations to the entire university community. He credited this remarkable accomplishment to the dedicated and collective efforts of the students, research scholars, faculty members, and non-teaching staff.

Professor Bishnoi emphasized that the ranking reflects the institution's ongoing commitment to embedding sustainable practices into its core operations. The structured evaluation across the six indicators—setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water conservation, transportation, and education and research—provides a clear roadmap for the university to enhance its green initiatives further.

This recognition places GJUST, Hisar, on the international map as a university seriously pursuing ecological balance and sustainable development. It sets a benchmark for other educational institutions in the region and underscores the growing importance of environmental accountability in the education sector.
