Dibrugarh University Celebrates Swami Vivekananda with 'Run for Swadeshi' Event
Dibrugarh University came alive with patriotic fervor on Monday as it hosted a special 'Run for Swadeshi' event. The run was organized to honor the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, which is celebrated across India as National Youth Day.
Organizers and Objectives
The postgraduate unit of the National Service Scheme (NSS) joined forces with the National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit of Dibrugarh University to put together this spirited event. They held it right on the university campus, making it part of the nationwide celebrations for National Youth Day.
The main goal of the run was clear. Organizers wanted to instill the core ideals that Swami Vivekananda championed throughout his life. These include strong nationalism, self-reliance (often called atmanirbharta in today's context), and youth empowerment. The event aimed to bring these philosophies to life through active participation.
Flag-Off and Key Address
Jitu Borah, who serves as the programme officer for the NSS DU PG unit, officially flagged off the run. He gave a stirring address to the gathered participants before they began their run.
In his speech, Borah emphasized how swadeshi values remain highly relevant in our modern era. He urged students to look beyond just academic excellence. Borah encouraged them to actively contribute to building India's socio-economic fabric through their actions and choices.
Participant Turnout and Route
The 'Run for Swadeshi' attracted an impressive turnout of approximately 200 participants. This group consisted of dedicated NCC cadets and enthusiastic NSS volunteers who came together for the cause.
Participants ran through a carefully designated route that wound across Dibrugarh University's lush green campus. As they ran, they waved the Indian tricolour flag proudly. Their chants and slogans echoed through the campus, all calling for a self-reliant and strong India.
Vice-Chancellor's Praise and Message
Vice-chancellor Prof. Jiten Hazarika praised the initiative wholeheartedly. He stated that Swami Vivekananda's vision of a strong, self-reliant India resonates today more powerfully than ever before.
"Events like 'Run for Swadeshi' empower our youth to channel their energy and vigour into meaningful action for Viksit Bharat," Prof. Hazarika explained. He added that National Youth Day represents much more than just a celebration. According to him, it serves as a call to embody Vivekananda's famous mantra in our daily lives: 'Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached.'
Conclusion and Pledge
The event concluded with a formal assembly where all participants came together one final time. During this assembly, they collectively pledged to uphold important values. These included personal integrity and dedicated service to their country, keeping Swami Vivekananda's teachings alive through their commitments.
The 'Run for Swadeshi' successfully blended physical activity with patriotic spirit and philosophical reflection. It provided Dibrugarh University students with a tangible way to connect with national ideals while promoting health and unity among youth.
