Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya in Indore has unveiled a significant set of student-focused reforms following persistent concerns over poor academic results in its MBA, BEd and law programs. The university is implementing a structured intervention strategy after pass percentages remained disappointingly low for three consecutive years, aiming to provide targeted support for affected students and substantially improve educational outcomes.
Three Expert Committees to Investigate Academic Decline
As a central component of the reform initiative, the university will establish three specialized committees, each comprising ten members, to thoroughly examine the underlying causes of the academic decline. These panels will conduct detailed investigations into crucial academic areas including:
- Paper setting methodologies and examination patterns
- Evaluation processes and grading systems
- Classroom teaching effectiveness and pedagogical approaches
- Faculty shortages and resource allocation
Notably, these committees will include faculty representatives from affiliated private colleges to ensure comprehensive perspective. The panels are expected to submit detailed recommendations addressing both academic deficiencies and technical gaps within the university system.
Online Academic Support Program with Retired Professors
In a direct response to student needs, the university will launch a specialized online academic support program featuring two-hour sessions conducted by retired professors from various departments. These interactive sessions will focus on:
- Comprehensive subject revision and concept clarification
- Strategic exam preparation techniques and study methodologies
- Core subject mastery for struggling students
Students requiring additional academic assistance can voluntarily opt into these sessions, with particular attention dedicated to those experiencing difficulties with fundamental subjects. To ensure continuity and institutional knowledge transfer, faculty members from select affiliated colleges may also participate in these support sessions.

University Vice-Chancellor Rakesh Singhai emphasized that the comprehensive effort aims to restore student confidence and rebuild institutional credibility.
"Improving academic results requires more than just evaluation reforms," stated Singhai. "We must strengthen classroom learning experiences, enhance student engagement, and establish consistent academic support systems. Regular revision opportunities and clear accountability at every administrative and academic level will be essential for achieving meaningful and sustainable improvement."
