AKTU to Train 1 Lakh Students in AI, Launches Rs 350 Crore Institutes
AKTU to Establish AI Institutes with Rs 350 Crore Fund

In a major push to build future-ready talent, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) has announced the establishment of dedicated artificial intelligence institutes. This ambitious initiative aims to create a robust ecosystem for AI learning, research, and manpower development in Uttar Pradesh.

Two New AI Institutes with Rs 350 Crore Investment

The university will set up two regional AI-dedicated engineering colleges. One will be located at the main AKTU campus in Lucknow, and the other at the UP Institute of Design (UPID) in Noida. Vice Chancellor Prof JP Pandey revealed that these institutes will be established with a significant fund of Rs 350 crore. The primary objective is to systematically train and certify one lakh students in artificial intelligence, addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals in this transformative field.

Creating an Accessible AI Ecosystem for Colleges and Startups

Prof Pandey explained that a major hurdle for many colleges is the high cost of AI infrastructure, particularly Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), which are essential for AI work. To solve this, AKTU will create a centralised AI lab and learning centre of excellence. Colleges affiliated with AKTU will be able to access these powerful GPU resources securely via a Virtual Private Network (VPN), enabling them to offer quality AI teaching and research without prohibitive upfront costs.

The institutes will also function as a vital support system for the startup community. They will assist entrepreneurs by developing AI models and business plans, fostering the creation of new AI-based startups. Furthermore, the university has mandated the inclusion of AI applications in the syllabus of all its courses. For instance, students of structural engineering will now learn how AI applies to their specific discipline.

State-Wide Impact and Future Roadmap

This move positions AKTU as a pivotal hub for AI advancement in North India. By providing certification to over a lakh students across the state and acting as a resource centre for hundreds of affiliated colleges, the initiative is designed to have a multiplier effect. The plan to share critical GPU resources via VPN is a innovative approach to democratising access to expensive technology. The integration of AI across all curricula ensures that every graduate from the university will have foundational AI knowledge, making them more competitive in the job market. This comprehensive strategy highlights AKTU's commitment to leading educational innovation and preparing a skilled workforce for the demands of Industry 4.0.
