Violence Erupts at JNU Campus, Leaving Students Injured and Sparking Outrage

Late Sunday night, a violent clash broke out at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi, resulting in multiple student injuries and allegations of targeted attacks by political groups. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has accused Left-wing organizations of orchestrating the assault, claiming that their members were brutally attacked on campus premises.

Details of the Alleged Assault and Critical Injuries

According to ABVP, the incident involved a severe attack on Prateek Bhardwaj, a Biotechnology student from the School of Biotechnology. In a social media post, ABVP stated that Bhardwaj was ambushed inside the School of Social Sciences by individuals they described as "Leftist goons." The organization alleged that he was first blinded with fire extinguisher powder and then mercilessly beaten, with reports suggesting a cylinder was opened and used during the assault. Bhardwaj was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, with his status described as serious.

ABVP's Account of Widespread Violence and Police Inaction

Vaibhav Meena, Joint Secretary of the JNU Students’ Union (ABVP), labeled the event a "night of terror," linking it to ongoing strikes by Left-wing groups that had persisted for nearly a week. Meena claimed that a mob of 300 to 400 masked individuals chased students away from libraries and study rooms, assaulting them in the process. In a more severe allegation, he asserted that a student named Vijay was "mob lynched" by a group of 100 to 150 people. ABVP criticized the Delhi Police for perceived inaction, accusing them of failing to intervene during the violence.

Social Media Campaign and Calls for Immediate Action

In response to the incident, ABVP launched a social media campaign using the hashtag #LeftAttacksJNUAgain, condemning what they called "calculated, cold-blooded violence." The organization argued that the campus had been transformed into a battlefield, where students were targeted simply for studying. They demanded immediate arrests and stricter law enforcement to prevent further harm, emphasizing that student safety should not be compromised.

ABVP's posts on social media highlighted their frustration, stating: "This is not student politics! This is cowardly, targeted violence against students who came here to study, not to be assaulted." They urged authorities to restore order and hold perpetrators accountable to avoid future incidents.

Context and Lack of Response from Left-Wing Groups

The violence reportedly erupted after days of strikes led by Left-wing organizations on the JNU campus, though these groups have not yet issued any public response to the allegations made by ABVP. The situation has raised concerns about campus safety and the escalation of political tensions within educational institutions.

As investigations continue, the incident underscores ongoing challenges in maintaining peace and security at universities, with calls for swift action to address the root causes of such conflicts.
