UP Students Embark on Educational Trip to Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary
In a significant educational excursion, sixty students from PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya, SGPGI, visited the Nawabganj bird sanctuary in Unnao on Saturday. This visit was designed to provide hands-on learning about biodiversity, wetland conservation, and the fundamental principles of eco-tourism.
Yuva Tourism Initiative Drives Conservation Awareness
The trip was organized by the Uttar Pradesh Eco Tourism Development Board under its Yuva Tourism Initiative. This program aims to engage young minds in environmental stewardship and sustainable practices from an early age.
During their visit, students actively participated in various educational activities. They walked along designated nature trails, which allowed them to immerse themselves in the natural habitat. From watch towers and view sheds, they observed a variety of bird species, gaining firsthand insight into avian life and migration patterns.
Interactive Learning at the Interpretation Centre
A key highlight of the trip was the visit to the interpretation centre. Here, students learned about local ecosystems and the diverse species that inhabit the sanctuary. The centre provided detailed information on the ecological significance of wetlands and the importance of preserving such environments.
Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh emphasized the initiative's goal. He stated that the aim is to make students active participants in conservation efforts, fostering a sense of responsibility towards nature.
Building Environmentally Conscious Citizens
Additional Chief Secretary (Tourism) Amrit Abhijat highlighted the broader impact of such programs. By involving students early, these initiatives seek to nurture environmentally conscious citizens who understand the value of sustainable travel and conservation.
The Shaheed Chandrashekhar Azad Bird Sanctuary, also known as Nawabganj bird sanctuary, is an internationally significant wetland. It is recognized as one of the 11 Ramsar sites in Uttar Pradesh, underscoring its global ecological importance.
During the winter months, the sanctuary becomes a haven for many migratory birds, attracting species from various regions. This seasonal migration adds to the biodiversity and educational value of the site, making it an ideal location for such learning experiences.
This educational trip not only provided students with practical knowledge but also inspired them to become advocates for environmental protection. Through initiatives like the Yuva Tourism Initiative, Uttar Pradesh is taking proactive steps to integrate conservation education into the youth's learning journey, ensuring a sustainable future for its natural heritage.
