Rajasthan Education Minister Launches Probe into Alleged School Carpet Procurement Scam
In a significant development, Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar announced on Friday a comprehensive investigation into alleged irregularities in the purchase of carpets for schools in the Degana Assembly constituency. The issue was brought to light during the Question Hour by BJP MLA Ajay Singh, who raised concerns about improper distribution of carpets to schools in the Degana area of Nagaur district. Singh alleged that the procurement was conducted without considering the actual needs of the schools, leading to absurd allocations. "Schools with no students received one carpet, and schools with 300 students also received just one," he stated, highlighting the lack of logic in the distribution.
Minister Dilawar elaborated on the allegations, claiming that carpets worth approximately Rs 35 lakh were purchased for schools in Degana based on recommendations made by the then Congress MLA, Vijaypal Mirdha. However, he asserted that in many instances, instead of procuring carpets, low-cost flooring material was acquired. "The then MLA recommended the purchase from the MLA fund. But instead of carpets, low-cost flooring was purchased. There are no accounts available for 171 such floorings. No one knows where they went," Dilawar explained, suggesting a potential scam.

Dilawar did not mince words, alleging that the irregularities indicated a possible scam during the Congress rule. "Government money was looted during the Congress rule. Action will be taken against the guilty officials," he declared, emphasizing the seriousness of the matter. What action will you take?" Dilawar maintained that the investigation would determine accountability, stating, "I will order an investigation. Whoever is found guilty will be prosecuted."

Following the minister's statement, Richpal Mirdha, father of the former MLA, issued a clarification defending his family's reputation. He stated, "Since 1952, our family has contested 51 elections. However, no accusations of corruption have ever been made against us, nor have we ever engaged in any actions that would tarnish politics or our family's reputation." He also countered by pointing out that Ajay Singh, who raised the issue, faced corruption charges when he was a cooperative minister in the previous government, which were supported by the ACB.
