Punjab's Sunawardeep Singh Masoun Achieves UPSC All India Rank 76 on Third Attempt

Sunawardeep Singh Masoun, a 26-year-old from Faridkot, Punjab, has secured an impressive All India Rank of 76 in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination. This achievement marks his third attempt at the prestigious civil services exam, demonstrating remarkable perseverance and dedication.

Academic and Professional Background

Masoun holds a B Tech in mechanical engineering from Symbiosis Institute in Pune. He completed his schooling in Faridkot and previously served as an inspector for cooperative societies in Faridkot. In this role, he gained valuable grassroots experience, interacting daily with communities, including women and unpaid workers.

Reflecting on his motivation, Masoun stated, "Being a field officer in the cooperatives department, I had daily interactions with the grassroots population. I did not have much power as an inspector to make decisions for them and wanted to reach a position where I could do something for such people." This drive fueled his civil services aspirations.

Previous Attempts and Family Support

His journey included attempts in 2022, where he did not qualify in the prelims, and 2024, when he cleared the prelims before this successful final result. His family, deeply rooted in academia, celebrates his success. His mother, Gagandeep Kaur, is an associate professor at Brijindra College in Faridkot, and his father, Kuldeep Singh, serves as director of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) regional centre in Faridkot.
