Punjab Adjusts School Hours for Safety During Cold Wave

The Punjab School Education Department has announced revised timings for schools across the state. This change takes effect from January 16 and continues through January 21. Officials made this decision to protect students and staff from harsh weather conditions.

New Schedule for Different School Levels

According to an official order, the revised schedule applies to all government, aided, recognized, and private schools in Punjab. Primary schools will now operate from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Middle, high, and senior secondary schools will run from 10:00 AM to 3:20 PM during this period.

Weather Concerns Prompt the Change

The department cited adverse weather as the key reason for adjusting timings. Low temperatures and dense fog have reduced visibility in the morning hours. These conditions pose significant risks to students and staff commuting to school. The move aims to minimize exposure during the coldest parts of the day.

Teachers' Front Supports the Decision

The Democratic Teachers' Front (DTF) Punjab also called for reduced school hours. On Wednesday, the group urged the state government to take action. They expressed concerns about the health and safety of everyone involved in school operations during this severe cold spell.

This proactive measure highlights the state's focus on welfare during extreme weather events. Parents and school administrations should note these temporary changes to ensure smooth implementation.
