The Gujarat unit of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) is taking a decisive stand against the scourge of narcotics in educational institutions. The student wing is launching a sweeping state-wide campaign titled 'Drug-Free Campus' starting this Friday, aiming to create awareness and foster commitment among the youth.
Massive Outreach Planned Across Gujarat
The ambitious initiative will see NSUI volunteers personally visiting over 1,000 educational campuses, including schools and colleges, across the state. The campaign is scheduled to run until January 20, ensuring a sustained effort to engage with students. The primary objective is to urge young individuals to consciously stay away from drugs and embrace healthier lifestyles.
Announcing the campaign at the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) headquarters on Thursday, NSUI state president Narendra Solanki emphasized the non-political nature of the fight against drugs. He stated that the drug menace is a critical social issue that requires collective effort from all sections of society to ensure campuses are safe and free from narcotics.
Pledges and Awareness to Combat the Menace
"We will visit schools and colleges and make students pledge that they shall stay away from narcotics, and lead healthy lives," Solanki told reporters. The campaign strategy involves direct interaction where volunteers will educate students about the severe dangers and consequences of drug abuse.
The launch event for this significant drive will be held at Thakorebhai Desai Hall in Ahmedabad. From this starting point, teams of dedicated NSUI volunteers will fan out across Gujarat to execute their mission. The focus is on preventive education, encouraging peer-to-peer dialogue, and building a strong, collective resolve against substance abuse.
A Collective Responsibility for a Drug-Free Future
The NSUI leadership has framed this campaign as a necessary step to protect the future of the nation's youth. By treating the issue as a public health and social concern rather than a political football, they aim to garner wider support and participation. The initiative underscores the vital role educational institutions and student bodies can play in shaping a drug-free society.
This large-scale awareness drive highlights the growing concern over drug proliferation in academic environments and represents a proactive attempt to shield students from its harmful impacts. The success of the campaign hinges on mobilizing student communities to take a personal and public stand against narcotics.
