A 16-year-old student from Delhi tragically ended his life on Tuesday, November 18, after what he described in a suicide note as persistent mental harassment by his school teachers. The Class 10 student from a private school jumped from the platform of Rajendra Place Metro Station in central Delhi at 2.34 pm.
A Cry for Help: The Contents of the Suicide Note
Police recovered the boy's school bag from the metro station, which contained a heartbreaking suicide note. The letter began with the boy identifying himself and providing a contact number. He explicitly stated that continuous scolding by the school staff had pushed him to take this extreme step.
In the note, he offered profound apologies to his parents and elder brother. "Sorry bhaiya, for all the time I was rude to you," he wrote. To his mother, he expressed his sorrow, saying, "Sorry mummy, however many times I broke your heart, I am going to do it for the last time." He also conveyed his gratitude towards his parents and his guilt for not being able to do more for them.
Demonstrating immense compassion, the teenager requested that his organs be donated. "Give my organs to those in need," he wrote, adding that if any of his organs were still functional after the fall, they should be used to help someone else.
His final wish was a plea for justice and prevention. The note demanded strict action against the teachers, stating, "Meri last wish hai inke uper action le, me nahi chata koi aur bacha meri tarah kuch kare (My last wish is that action be taken against them, I don't want other children to suffer the way I did)."
The Final Day: A Drama Class That Ended in Tragedy
On the morning of the incident, the boy had left home excited for his drama club session. According to his father, the day took a dark turn during that very class. The boy slipped and fell, after which a teacher allegedly pushed him and insulted him in front of everyone, accusing him of overacting.
"They scolded him so much that he started crying, but the teacher told him they did not care how much he cried," the grieving father recounted. The student's friends supported this account, revealing that the boy had expressed his dream to be "the next Shah Rukh Khan of St Columba's" just before the teacher mocked and humiliated him.
A Pattern of Harassment and Pleas for Help
The family revealed that the alleged harassment was not an isolated incident. The boy had been complaining for the past 8-10 months that certain teachers would scold, insult, and mentally torment him over minor issues.
His father stated, "He used to tell me and my wife that teachers scolded him for every small thing and emotionally hurt him. We complained verbally many times, but they never stopped." The parents had even planned to change his school after he completed Class 10.
Disturbingly, the boy's aunt claimed that the family was unaware of the depth of his suffering. "He was depressed for so long... He even told his school counsellors and teachers that he was going to commit suicide, but none of them informed us," she said, adding that they learned this crucial information from his friends only after his death.
Aftermath: Protests, FIR, and Suspensions
Following the incident, outraged students and parents held a protest outside the school, alleging that the administration had repeatedly ignored complaints about teacher harassment.
The police have registered an FIR at the Rajendra Nagar police station that includes charges related to the abetment of suicide. As part of the investigation, statements are being recorded from classmates, teachers, and school authorities.
In response, the school suspended four staff members, including the headmistress for Classes 4-10, the coordinator for Classes 9 and 10, and two teachers. However, the boy's father has called this suspension "only temporary" and is demanding the arrest of the teachers named in the FIR. "We need to send a message that no teacher should treat our children like that," he asserted.
