The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has unveiled comprehensive details about its revolutionary dual-exam system for Class 10 students, set to launch in the 2025-26 academic session. During a significant national webinar conducted on November 20, board officials provided crucial clarifications about the new examination pattern that promises to transform the educational landscape.
Dual Exam System: A Game Changer for Students
Starting from 2026, Class 10 students will experience a completely redesigned examination structure. The academic year will feature two distinct board exam sessions - the first occurring during February-March and the second following in May. While the initial session remains mandatory for all candidates, the subsequent examination provides an optional opportunity for enhancement.
The groundbreaking aspect of this system allows students to select their best performance from either attempt for their final academic transcript. This approach effectively eliminates the high-pressure environment associated with single-session examinations and aligns Indian education with international best practices.
Subject Improvement and Compartment Guidelines
Students seeking to enhance their academic performance will have the flexibility to reattempt up to three subjects from key disciplines including science, mathematics, social science, and languages during the second examination session. This provision offers substantial relief to learners who may have underperformed in specific subjects during their first attempt.
The compartment examination policy has also received important clarifications. Students who fail in one or two subjects during the initial session will qualify to appear for the second examination under the compartment category. However, those facing challenges in three or more subjects will be designated as Essential Repeat candidates and must wait for the following year's main examinations to continue their academic journey.
Streamlined Assessment Cycle and Support Systems
The new examination framework introduces a well-organized assessment timeline designed to minimize academic disruptions. Results for the first examination session will be declared in April, while second session outcomes will follow in June.
