Violence Erupts at Bengaluru Medical College Following Controversial Classroom Incident
The Sri Siddhartha Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre in T Begur, near Nelamangala in Bengaluru Rural district, descended into chaos this week after a professor's alleged romantic proposal to a student inside a classroom sparked widespread outrage and physical violence.
Viral Videos Capture Controversial Classroom Exchange
The incident, which reportedly occurred on Wednesday, gained public attention through multiple videos recorded by students on their mobile phones and subsequently shared across social media platforms. According to the college's official website, Home Minister G Parameshwara serves as the governing council chairman of the institution, adding a political dimension to the unfolding controversy.
Trouble began when Professor Mohammed Abdul allegedly proposed to a female student during a classroom session. In one widely circulated video clip, the professor is seen standing at the podium addressing the class, stating: "I couldn't resist the immense love given by the batch, and I would like to propose to one of the most important girls in your batch. I shall distribute chocolates to the entire batch." The footage shows him concluding his address by directly telling the student, "I love you."
Student Confrontation and Escalating Tensions
The targeted student immediately objected to the professor's declaration, demanding that he take the matter to the principal and warning that the entire batch of students would accompany her to lodge a formal complaint. The professor then engaged in a heated argument with the student, counter-claiming that she had recently proposed to him first.
When the student challenged his assertion, Professor Abdul responded: "Didn't you say I love you? Didn't you say it?" He further claimed that CCTV footage existed to substantiate his version of events, prompting the student to demand immediate proof. The professor eventually exited the classroom, telling her he would speak to her the following day while instructing students to enjoy the chocolates he had brought.
Notably, the professor had arrived with a full carton of chocolates and arranged for their distribution among students, suggesting premeditation of his controversial announcement.
Violent Outburst and Police Intervention
Tensions escalated dramatically shortly after the professor left the classroom. The agitated student, accompanied by a group of classmates, confronted Professor Abdul and began physically assaulting him with her slipper. Other students joined the attack, verbally abusing and physically assaulting the professor, who reportedly fled the scene to escape further violence.
Bengaluru Rural District Superintendent of Police Chandrakanth MV confirmed that authorities have registered a formal case against Professor Mohammed Abdul at the Nelamangala Rural police station. "The professor will be served a notice to appear before the investigating officer. There is no counter complaint filed by the professor over the assault," stated a police officer involved in the investigation.
The college principal has remained unavailable for comment, failing to respond to multiple calls and messages from media outlets seeking clarification on the incident and the institution's response to the serious allegations against one of its faculty members.
