Ahmedabad Education Department Takes Special Measures for Disabled Students Ahead of Board Exams

In a proactive move to support students with disabilities, the Ahmedabad City district education office has announced special arrangements for the upcoming Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) board examinations, scheduled to commence from February 26. The focus is on ensuring that these students receive the necessary assistance to appear for their papers without any hindrance.

Key Requirement: Allocation of Writers for Disabled Students

One of the critical needs for students with disabilities during exams is the provision of a 'writer' or scribe to help them complete their papers. To streamline this process and avoid last-minute complications, Ahmedabad City District Education Officer (DEO) Rohit Chaudhary has issued an important directive. According to a recent circular, the allocation of writers for disabled students began on February 17.

Office to Remain Open on Public Holiday for Writer Allocation

In an unprecedented step, the DEO's office will remain operational on Sunday, February 22, despite it being a public holiday. This decision was made specifically to complete pending writer allocation work and ensure that no student is left without assistance. All principals of secondary and higher secondary schools in Ahmedabad city have been notified that the office will function from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM on that day.

Students or parents who have not yet finalized the formalities for obtaining a writer are encouraged to visit the office during these hours. Although government offices typically remain closed on Sundays, this exception was taken to prevent any last-minute rush and guarantee that every disabled student has access to the support they need.

Supervision and Commitment to Inclusivity

To oversee the process closely, education inspectors and assistant education inspectors have been instructed to supervise the writer allocation activities. This measure underscores the education department's commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunities for all students, particularly those with disabilities facing the challenges of board exams.

The initiative highlights Ahmedabad's dedication to creating a supportive environment for disabled learners, ensuring they can participate in exams smoothly and without undue stress. As the exam dates approach, such efforts are crucial in fostering an equitable educational landscape.
