The Ahmedabad District Education Officer (DEO) has issued a stern warning to seven private primary schools in the city, stating that their official recognition could be cancelled if they fail to obtain the mandatory Building Use (BU) permission. These institutions have been operating from sealed premises, forcing them to conduct classes online for their students.
Schools Operating Without Mandatory Clearance
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) had earlier sealed the premises of Brighton Public School, Farukh Primary School, The New Age Primary School, Kuwasi Primary School, Classic Primary School, National Primary School, and Fortune School. This action was taken after inspections confirmed that these schools were functioning without the legally required BU permission. Since the sealing, there has been no change in the status of these buildings.
DEO's Directive and Warning
In an urgent official circular addressed to the school managements, the DEO clarified that shifting to virtual classes is not an acceptable substitute for complying with statutory building and safety norms. The education department has directed the schools to immediately initiate and complete the process of securing BU permission within a stipulated timeframe.
The circular made it clear that non-compliance will invite strict action under existing rules, which includes the potential withdrawal of the school's recognition. Sources indicate that despite repeated reminders from authorities, some of the seven schools have not even started the application process for BU permission, prompting this latest warning.
Student Safety Remains Top Priority
Currently, students from these sealed schools continue their education through online classes. The education department has reiterated that adherence to building and safety regulations is non-negotiable. Officials emphasized that continued violations will not be tolerated, as ensuring student safety is the department's foremost priority.
