Digital Learning Platforms Transform Education and Employment for Rural Women in Lucknow

Online learning platforms and courses are revolutionizing opportunities for rural women, enabling them to pursue education from home and significantly enhance their employment and business prospects. This transformative impact was the focus of expert discussions at the Times Women of Eminence-2026 event, organized by The Times of India and Navbharat Times in Lucknow on Sunday.

Panel Discussions Focus on Empowerment and Digital Participation

The event featured panel discussions centered on women empowerment, digital participation, and workplace equality. The first panel, titled 'Digital Bhagidari Aur Bharat Ki Rani', explored how digital platforms are shaping new opportunities for women across India.

Psychiatrist Alok Bajpai emphasized that online learning platforms and courses offered by institutions like IGNOU allow women from rural backgrounds to access education remotely. "This not only helps them pursue academic goals but also improves their employment prospects by equipping them with relevant skills," he stated.

Digital Tools Enable Entrepreneurship and Market Access

Pooja Agarwal, Pro-Chancellor of Shri Ram Swaroop Memorial University, highlighted how digital tools empower women to turn traditional skills into profitable online enterprises. "Skills such as knitting, papad making, and pickle making can now reach larger markets through digital platforms, allowing women to earn independently and support their families," she explained.

Tulika Kapoor, Founder of Aryashree Shiksha Samiti, discussed the influence of reel culture on social media, noting that it boosts confidence among women and expands their awareness of urban life. Social worker Poonam Singh added, "Digitalization supports women socially and economically by helping them access information, connect with support networks, promote small businesses, and participate in discussions on social issues."

Bharti Madhok, Vice Chairperson of the Sunbeam Group of Educational Institutions, pointed out that digital platforms have opened new avenues for young women. "Through social media, many girls are expressing their ideas, learning new skills, and turning their creativity into sustainable income streams," she said.

Workplace Equality Begins at Home and in Classrooms

The second panel discussion, 'Samanta Ki Kasauti Par Mahila Shram', addressed equality in the workforce. Writer, director, and actor Atul Tiwari stressed that achieving workplace equality must start with equality in homes and classrooms. "When boys and girls grow up with the same opportunities and expectations, respect for women's work and equal pay will naturally follow," he remarked.

Anjali Tiwari, Organizer of the Kanpur Literature Festival, emphasized the importance of recognizing women's achievements in cultural and public spaces to inspire fairness and open doors for equal opportunities. Educationist Anshu Singh Gautam noted, "Supporting girls in schools and colleges builds confidence, allowing them to step into professional roles with assurance and ambition."

Vandana Bansal, Director of Jeevan Jyoti Group of Hospitals, highlighted that equality involves more than just pay. "It includes respect, safety, and growth opportunities, which workplaces must actively provide to foster an inclusive environment," she asserted.

Event Support and Broader Implications

The event was supported by various organizations, including Sofy, Nandi, Abhyudaya Celestial, BMW Mini India, Union Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, and Bank of India.
