President Approves Second Term for DU V-C Yogesh Singh
Prof Yogesh Singh has been reappointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University for a second consecutive five-year term, following approval from the President of India in her capacity as the Visitor of the University. The reappointment takes effect from October 8, 2026, making Singh only the second V-C in DU's history to secure a straight second term, after Maurice Gwyer who served from 1938 to 1950.
Official Order Issued by Education Ministry
The Ministry of Education's Department of Higher Education issued an official order on July 2, 2026, addressed to the Registrar of DU. The order stated: "The President of India in her capacity as the Visitor of University of Delhi has been pleased to reappoint Prof Yogesh Singh as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delhi for a second term of five years w.e.f October 8, 2026." It further clarified that the terms and conditions of his second tenure would remain in accordance with the University's Act, Statutes, and Ordinances.
Key Achievements in First Term
Prof Singh assumed office as DU's V-C in October 2021. During his first term, he oversaw several major initiatives, including the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the rollout of the Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP), expansion of digital and research infrastructure, and efforts to strengthen the university's academic ecosystem. His reappointment signals the government's confidence in his leadership and ensures continuity in ongoing reforms and long-term development agenda.
