Yenepoya University Achieves Historic Culinary Record in Mangaluru
In a remarkable display of culinary speed and precision, the Department of Hospitality Science at Yenepoya (deemed to be university) in Mangaluru has secured a prestigious place in the India Book of Records. The achievement was for conducting the fastest culinary and beverage marathon representing every Indian state, timed to coincide with National Tourism Day celebrations.
Record-Breaking Event Details and Verification
The record-setting event took place on January 30, with the formal recognition and felicitation ceremony held on a recent Saturday. According to official reports, the attempt adhered to strict guidelines and underwent a rigorous verification process supervised by record officials. Students and faculty members collaborated within a fixed time frame to meticulously present signature dishes and traditional beverages from all 28 Indian states.
Mervin Jaison Vas, the head of the Department of Hospitality Science, elaborated on the culinary spectacle. Titled '28 states – chefs, dishes, bartenders, beverages in 28 minutes', the event was hosted at the Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Management and Commerce. Vas confirmed that the record was achieved when 28 student chefs and 28 student bartenders worked simultaneously to prepare authentic traditional dishes and beverages representing India's diverse states, all completed within the tight 28-minute window.
University Leadership and Academic Excellence
BT Nandish, the controller of examinations at Yenepoya (deemed to be university), praised the accomplishment, noting that representing every Indian state with genuine cuisine in such a precise time frame was a significant and remarkable feat. The event was conducted under the expert guidance of principal Jeevan Raj; vice principal and dean of the faculty of commerce and management, Shareena P; and vice principal Narayan Sukumar.
