The vibrant three-day college-level festival 'Umang 26' was officially inaugurated at the Govt Engineering College (GEC), Buxar, on Saturday. Organized by the Patna-based department of science, technology, and technical education, the event promises a dynamic showcase of student talent across sports, culture, and literature until January 12.
Inauguration Ceremony Sets the Stage
The opening ceremony saw Alok Vats, the district sports officer, and Ravi Bahadur, the district art and culture officer, attending as chief guests. They commended the students' energy and skills, stressing that such extracurricular activities are crucial for the holistic growth of young minds. The event commenced traditionally with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Principal Ram Naresh Rai, joined by faculty members Anjani Kumar Tiwari, Shyam Lal Verma, and R N Yadav.
Formally launching the sports segment, the guests and principal cut a ribbon at the college playground and flagged off a cricket match. This act marked the official beginning of the competitive events.
A Multifaceted Arena of Talent
The sports calendar for Umang 26 is packed with diverse events. Students will compete in cricket, volleyball, badminton, kabaddi, athletics, chess, and carrom. In a move to strengthen campus bonds, friendly matches between students and faculty have also been scheduled.
Parallelly, the college's literature club is hosting a series of intellectual contests. These include debate, speech, poetry recitation, quiz, and essay writing competitions, offering a platform for students to demonstrate their creative and analytical abilities.
Cultural Vibrancy and Leadership Insights
The inaugural day was further energized by captivating cultural performances. Aditi and Anjali enthralled the audience with dance routines, while Raunak Kumar and Ashish Kumar showcased their singing talent. The program was adeptly anchored by Ankit Kumar and Khushi Kumari.
Addressing the gathering, Principal Ram Naresh Rai emphasized that sports, cultural, and literary pursuits are integral to the complete development of students. He stated that 'Umang 26' is a reflection of the institution's lively academic and co-curricular environment.
Echoing his sentiments, faculty members Shyam Lal Verma and R N Yadav highlighted how such festivals are instrumental in nurturing discipline, confidence, leadership qualities, and sportsmanship among the learner community.
