Gorakhpur: Madan Mohan Malviya University of Technology (MMMUT) has appointed Prof Anupama Kaushik Sharma as its new vice-chancellor. She becomes the fifth VC and the first woman to hold the post since the institution's inception as Madan Mohan Malaviya Engineering College.
According to the official order issued from Jan Bhavan, Lucknow, Prof Sharma has been appointed for a three-year term, effective from the date she assumes charge. Her appointment marks a significant milestone in technical education in Uttar Pradesh, as no woman is believed to have previously served as vice-chancellor or director of a technical institution in the state.
Educational Background and Career
Prof Sharma completed her BE and ME in Chemical Engineering from Panjab University in 1993 and 1995, respectively. She later earned an MBA in Finance and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the same university. Additionally, she holds a postgraduate diploma in Statistics and a diploma in French.
She joined Panjab University as a lecturer in 1999, became an associate professor in 2008, and a professor in 2011. During her tenure, she has served as TEQIP coordinator, dean (Alumni Relations), and chairperson of the University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology.
Experience and Achievements
With over 31 years of experience, Prof Sharma has published nearly 100 research papers and supervised 10 PhD scholars. Her extensive background in chemical engineering and administration positions her well to lead MMMUT. She is expected to assume charge shortly.
